If you have a flat or leaking tire that still has plenty of tread and is worth saving, bring it into Ken Van Damme’s Automotive auto repair. Our tire experts can repair your tire and get you back on the road.
Many times a tire is in good shape but gets punctured by a nail or other piece of debris on the road. There is no reason to waste a good tire that could otherwise go on for many more miles. A tire repair saves you the cost of fully replacing the old tire for a new one.
When you come to us, our tire professionals assess the damage done to your tire. They have the expertise to offer sound advice on whether a tire repair or a tire replacement is the best option, depending on the extent of the damage and the condition of your tire. If you do need a new tire, our tire store is fully stocked and we likely have what you need, in-house.
When a tire repair is a reasonable choice, we dismount the tire and patch the damage. A patch is applied to the inside of the tire, completely sealing off the damaged area and the space around it. The tire is then remounted onto the rim. We test the tire repair when it is complete, ensuring that it holds air and is in sound condition. A tire patch is the best option for tire repair.
At times customers may request a tire to be plugged. A plug is a sticky, expandable substance that is inserted into the hole of a tire to temporarily stop the leak. This is fine for getting your car off the road and safely to a tire shop if you do not have spare tire as an option. It is a temporary fix that can ultimately cause damage to the tire. The substance is not made of the same rubber that your tire is made from and will not expand and contract at the same rate. This creates the possibility that a leak will reoccur and the plug will likely shift and even fall out. While we are able to offer this service, we strongly recommend a patch over a tire plug.
Taking care of your tires is an important part of vehicle maintenance. When tires are kept at the right level of air pressure, well-balanced, and rotated on a regular basis it not only increases the longevity of your tires, it also improves your vehicle’s performance, including gas mileage.
